Report on the EcoReactEU study on youth eco-anxiety

About

This report on the state of scientific research on eco-anxiety among young people aged 16 to 25 was carried out as part of the EcoReactEu project by the four associated partners: La Ligue de l’enseignement, EKoGreece, Arci, and Utrecht University. Its aim is to assess the impact of environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution on the psychological well-being of young people in four European countries: France, Greece, Italy, and the Netherlands. The contents of this study are based on monitoring and analyzing existing literature on eco-anxiety among young people, as well as the results of two separate questionnaires addressed to youth workers and young people in the four European countries involved in the study. In total, 832 responses were analyzed to better understand the different manifestations of eco-anxiety among young people (anger, fear, sadness, etc.) and to assess youth workers' understanding of it. The report is structured into two main parts. The first part offers a literature review that explores the existing literature on eco-anxiety among young people and highlights the gaps that the study aimed to fill. The second part provides a detailed summary of the study conducted with young people and youth workers in the four European countries, including the survey methods used, the results obtained, and recommendations based on the results to help youth workers provide an educational response to young people's eco-anxiety.
